I was born in Brooklyn in 1986, and raised for the most part in Woodhaven, Oueens. I come from a rather artistic family; my mother is an artist, her father a guitar maker and barber. My father also plays percussion and my younger sister is an emerging artist/writer herself. I grew up in a household where both verbal and artistic expression were greatly encouraged, and it was through the creation of this type of environment that I was allowed to flourish artistically with little to no instruction. Having taught myself to draw by referencing my mother's old sketchbooks and anatomy texts, it was clear that I had the passion necessary to embark on a career in the arts. In my junior year of High School I was given the opportunity to attend an intensive summer drawing class at The cooper Union. It was there that I found myself artistically and realized where my talents lay. I am currently working on self-publishing my first graphic novel as well as a children's picture book. I also plan on releasing limited edition prints of my work as well as T-shirts and other items to sell in the near future. My mediums of choice are graphite, charcoal, gouache, and digital paint. Through the use of these mediums I have chosen to explore the ways in which physical action and quality of line affect the nature of responses a specific work evokes. The goal here to achieve a rhythm with my work that is both distinct and recognizable. Two artists who've informed my work are conceptual artist Yoji Shinkawa and comic book artist Jae Lee. As the arts and entertainment industries change due to the use and availability of a vast array of creative technologies, a main goal of mine to explore as many different formats as possible. These formats include but are not limited to: traditional illustration, sequential work (comic books), animation (2D and 3D), video, photography (film and digital), traditional painting, sculpture, installation, and interactive art. I wish to embark on this journey through my personal body of work as well as any commercial endeavors that I may pursue in the future. |
